The mango harvest in the region of Soconusco is expected to start 15 days earlier than usual, as the flowering of the mango in most of the extensions of the region came early. This means that there still will be no demand for this fruit in the international market when the first fruits appear, so producers will look for marketing channels in the domestic market.
The President of the Ataulfo Mango Regulatory Council in Soconusco, Alfredo Cerdio Sanchez said that, since the trees were very sensitive, they had bloomed early because of the low temperatures there had been at the beginning of November and the fewer rains there had been throughout the whole productive process.
However, he said, this wont have a negative effect on the 2019 harvest period, so its possible production surpasses the volume achieved this year, because there will be an early harvest but there will be a new flowering that will be able to cover the demand of the international market, i.e. of the United States, Canada, and some European countries.
He also said they hoped there were no off season rains in the remainder of November or next month, as it would affect the crops and reduce the harvest.
Cerdio Sanchez said there would be fruit in February, March, April, and May, which shows that producers will have a prolonged harvest and thus, greater economic results.
