Angelo Lorusso is the CEO of the AgriLorusso cooperative which can count on 10 different partners. He said, “Currently, we are harvesting, but there are several issues: fog, heavy and persistent rains, humidity – which weakens crops thus facilitating plant diseases. We keep on working and do not give up, nonetheless. Our goal is to selec and to offer the best produce for marketing”.
Lorusso, “Chard is less resistant to plant diseases than other plants. We experienced much lower sales compared to last year. The demand is very mild because of the temperatures – which are definitely too high for this period, especially in Northern Europe. We are expecting that consumption will be facilitated as the temperatures turn colder while slowing down the productions, at the same time”.
“Celery is performing extremely well. We produce it throughout the year. In the moments with the highest demand, we were able to market our produce. This vegetable is farmed over 50-60 hectares from the partners that make up our cooperative”.
Celery, chard, parsley and different cabbage varieties of the AgriLorusso company are also shipped to France, Belgium, UK, Denmark and Germany. Lorusso pointed out, “If the temperature will turn colder for real, then the situation should improve. Despite the Yellow Vest protest in France, our producers could reach the retail outlets. Although there was a bit of a delay, all the produce reached the destination”.
