Among the top 10 imports commodities of Double 11 at Tmall this year, imported health food and milk powder are the top two. However, yesterdays "China Food Safety Research Report 2017" showed that 6631 batches of imported food which did not meet the national standards and other requirements were detected in 2017, an increase of 117.98% over the same period last year, and the number of unqualified batches also reached a record high.

In addition to selling well online, imported food is becoming more and more popular offline. On the Dongtucheng Road in Chaoyang District, two stores of imported goods opened one after another. Dried durians from Thailand, coffee from Italy, candies from the United States, and all kinds of imported food are dazzling. Nowadays, this kind of imported snack store has already blossomed in the streets of Beijing, and there is an increasing trend.

Is imported food a guarantee of high quality? In fact, imported food is also mixed. The report, jointly released by China Food Safety Newspaper, Jiangnan University, Institute of Food Safety Risk Management and other research institutes, shows that Chinas total imported food trade reached 58.28 billion dollars in 2017, an increase of 25.01% over 2016. At the same time, the number of unqualified food batches also increased substantially.

From the top five batches of imported unqualified food, Japan, known for its good quality of commodities, has the largest number of unqualified food, up to 909 batches, accounting for 13.71% of the total; the United States, 525 batches, accounting for 7.92%, followed by Korea, 399 batches, accounting for 6.02%; Australia, 306 batches, accounting for 4.61%.

Overall, 4216 batches were involved in the top 10 countries and regions, accounting for 63.59% of the total. Unqualified quality, unqualified certificates, over shelf life, unqualified labels, abuse of food additives and microbial contamination are the main reasons for unqualified.
