US-based ingredients manufacturer Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has expanded its product range with the addition of micronised colour powders made from foodstuffs, as well as a paprika extract for vibrant shades of orange.
ADM’s new micronised colour powders are said to have particles that are smaller than conventional colour pigments. As a result, the micronised colour powders offer a larger surface, as well as increased opacity, thereby giving food products an intensive and striking colour.
The range of powders was developed using colouring foodstuffs, which include safflower, curcumin, red radish and spirulina. The products can be used for instant beverages, chewing gum, powder mixtures, concentrates and confectionery.
“Both its micronised colour powder and paprika extract can be declared as ingredients with no E numbers.”
ADM also expanded its Wild Rainbow Range with the addition of paprika, which can be used for food applications.
The company claims that its paprika is suitable for all pH values, as well as being heat-stable. It can be used to give a bright orange colour to various products, including confectionery, snacks, ice cream, baked goods, breakfast cereals and chewing gum.
ADM said that both its micronised colour powder and paprika extract can be declared as ingredients with no E numbers, which means that they are suitable for clean label products.
Last month, ADM agreed to acquire European natural citrus flavour ingredients provider Ziegler Group for an undisclosed sum.
Established in 1963, Ziegler is a German firm that is engaged in the production of citrus oils, extracts, concentrates and compounds for flavour, food and beverage industries.
