Plant-based meals maker Alpha Foods has secured $7m in a seed funding round that was co-led by New Crop Capital and AccelFoods, including additional mission aligned partners.
The investment will be used to expand the brand’s reach and lead a new frontier in plant-based eating.
Alpha Foods co-founder and CEO Loren Wallis said: “As we continue to expand and reach more consumers, our mission remains the same, to help vegans and non-vegans alike make small changes for their health and the environment by providing unrivalled plant-based taste.
“We feel so fortunate to have found outstanding partners in New Crop and AccelFoods to help propel our brand in this next chapter.”
Established in 2015, Alpha Foods has been offering comfort food products such as burritos, pot pies, chik’n nuggets and tamales.
The company claims that all its food products are produced with plant-based and non-GMO ingredients.
Its brand portfolio includes 20 products, which are currently available in more than 6,000 stores across the US, including Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Sprouts and Wegmans.
Alpha Foods co-founder, CFO and COO Cole Orobetz said: “Our benchmark at Alpha Foods is to always create products that are appealing to meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. Plant-based options don’t need to be extreme or polarising anymore.
“More consumers are looking to reduce their meat intake without sacrificing foods they know and love. Our foods have mass-market appeal because they are familiar, easy to prepare and can be enjoyed on-the-go.”
