Dutch multinational dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina has acquired cheese cutting and packaging firm W Bakker Kaashandel through its cheese wholesale business arm Zijerveld.
The acquisition is expected to fulfil FrieslandCampina’s commitment to serving customers, anywher and anytime.
Following the deal, Bakker Kaashandel’s activities will be integrated into Zijerveld.
Zijerveld director Sander Koutstaal said: “As an autonomous cheese wholesaler within FrieslandCampina, we serve our customers with advice aimed at growing the total category of fresh cheese. based on the specific formula principles of our customers, we develop innovative, customised concepts.
“A fast, excellent translation to the store and online is of great importance. This requires flexibility and excellent logistics services. The cutting and packaging activities of W Bakker Kaashandel fit in with our ambition to serve our customers even better.”
Zijerveld distributes its products to the domestic and overseas markets. It also supplies its range through out-of-home, online, wholesale businesses and industrial clients.
Its cheese portfolio includes North–Holland, farmhouse, goat and foreign cheese.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed by both companies.
In May 2013, FrieslandCampina acquired cheese specialist Zijerveld and its packaging unit Den Hollander Food from MYWO Food.
Last month, FrieslandCampina announced that it is exploring options for constructing a dairy processing plant in the Netherlands.
The company intends to use the plant to process fresh dairy products, cheese and ingredients for the production of child and adult nutrition.
