The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has issued a notice regarding a tender for supply of rice to Egypt. The tender was issued by the General Authority of Supply of Commodities (GASC), Ministry of Supplies and Internal Trade, Government of Egypt, for procurement of 20,000 MT (metric tonne) of imported white naturally fully milled rice.
In this regard, APEDA was in receipt of a letter from the Indian Consulate in Cairo.
The Egyptian tender sought to import white naturally fully milled rice, wherin short- or medium-grain/broken rice would not exceed 10-12 per cent from the most recent crop (2018) complying with the Egyptian standards.
The original bid was around $50,000. The bid shall open at GASC on May 21, 2019. The minimum quantity offered shall be 20,000 tonne +/- 10 per cent (in full or in batches).
Meanwhile, APEDA has also issued a notice for the online registration of contracts for the export of basmati rice in accordance to the rules set by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
The notice stated that for pre-shipment testing of Basmati Rice for export to the EU (European unio), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland in accordance with conditions 12 and 13 notified vide trade notice dated July 26, 2017 and August 14, 2018, exporters and laboratories are required to ensure that sample of basmati rice has been drawn in accordance with internationally-accepted guidelines, viz. Codex document containing recommended methods of sampling for the determination of pesticide residues for compliance with MRLs (maximum residue limits) CAC/GL 33-1999.
APEDA, with the notice, also issued a list of 22 pesticides, decided in consultation with trade and industry and to be tested.
