The cultivation of various varieties of plums, suitable for the production of prunes, is becoming a relatively new segment of Tajikistans horti industry. More and more farms are engaged in the cultivation of this fruit and its export. One of them is Dzhabbor Rasulov farm of the eponymous district of Sughd region. Since the beginning of the harvesting campaign this year, growers have already exported more than 20 tons of product in demand on the market.
In previous years in the Republic of Tajikistan, this variety of plum was grown mainly for farmers own needs, and only a small part of the crop was offered on the domestic market.
With the recent change in market conditions and the increasing demand for prunes in the foreign market, farmers are paying special attention to the breakdown of plum orchards of various varieties. Seedlings of this fruit begin to bear fruit in the second or third year. Everywher intensive and super intensive plum orchards are laid.
Then, several years ago, the Dzhabbor Rasulov farm allocated 4 hectares of land for this crop and today farmers already get a good harvest. The approbation carried out on the farm confirms that in general 60 tons of quality plum for prune production will come from the garden. Most of the fruit, like the first batch, will be exported to Russia.
It is reported that, in total, Jabbor Rasulov district plum orchards today occupy more than 32 hectares. Most of the orchards are already fruitful and profitable for farmers.
