The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has launched a contest about food safety aimed at those in the Asia Pacific region.

The FAO’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific is calling for entries in a photo, poster, and video contest to illustrate ideas from young generations about food safety.

The competition is for nationals from or people currently living in a country of the Asia-Pacific region and who are 30 years old or younger. However, young people outside the region can participate through the “special contribution” slot.

Topics could include handwashing, food standards, food fraud, microbiological contamination, chemical contamination, e-commerce and food deliveries, or climate change.

Food safety in photos, posters and videos
Submissions should show a food safety topic or issue that occurs at any point in the supply chain.

“We are looking for photos or posters that represent a food safety topic or issue that occurs at a point of your choice in the food supply chain,” according to the contest brief.

Video entries should address a food safety issue that participants face in their daily lives, revealing the habits, practices, behaviors or norms that cause it as well as the solutions they suggest. They can be targeted on children or education, national authorities, consumers or food businesses and created in groups of one to three people.

Participants will receive an electronic certificate and all winners will be recognized. Video winners will have the opportunity to attend the Regional Food Safety Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, and speak in front of food safety experts. FAO will cover all expenses related to participation.

People can submit up to seven pieces if they meet category conditions. Videos should not exceed two minutes with English subtitles. To enter the “Be young, be food-safe, be heard” competition follow this link.

While the deadline is Aug. 31, 2020, participants are encouraged to submit entries by May 31 to be featured at the second World Food Safety Day on June 7. Food safety has also been chosen as the theme of World Accreditation Day which is held two days later.
