British pork processor Tulip is set to reopen its Bromborough meat factory in Wirral, Merseyside, with an investment of £15m.
The facility was shut last year after its supply contract came to an end.
The investment will be used by the company to install advanced equipment and technology at the sites.
Tulip intends to transform its Bromborough site into a ‘centre of excellence for the UK’s fresh pork manufacturing.’
The company is planning to start production activities at the facility later this month, with an initial focus on higher welfare, Red Tractor and EU fresh pork, which will be supplied to its retail customers.
Going forward, Tulip intends to further expand the facility.
The investment in the meat factory is also expected to create new 120 employment opportunities in the region.
Tulip CEO Andrew Cracknell said: “The reopening of our site in Bromborough, which comes with significant capital investment and job creation, is great news for our business, the local community and our customers.”
The company also appointed Julian Weeks as Tulip Bromborough site director, who has been associated with the company for a decade.
Weeks said: “I am very much looking forward to this new challenge and building a high-performing team as we work to establish Bromborough as a true centre of excellence.”
In June, Tulip reportedly suspended production at its meat processing plant in Tipton, West Midlands, after ten people tested positive for the virus at the company’s facility in George Henry Road.
