Mondelēz International is one step closer to solar. Thats in part thanks to the recent completion of of the Roadrunner Solar Project, which just became the largest operational solar farm in Texas.

Running out of Upton, Texas, the Roadrunner project, which is owned and operated by Enel Green Power North America, just completed its 245 MW second phase, bringing the final total to 497 MW.

In June 2019, Mondelēz International signed a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Enel Green Power North America for a 65-MW portion of the Roadrunner project.  According to a release, the energy supplied by this project is enough to produce over 50% of all the Oreos consumed in the US annually and will reduce Mondelēz International’s annual CO2 emissions by 80,000 metric tons.

The agreement is Mondelēz International’s largest renewable energy partnership at a global level and their first renewable energy power purchase agreement signed in the U.S.
