To celebrate National Cheeseburger Day Sept. 18, Nestles Sweet Earth Foods launched the PB (Plant-based) Triple Play – what it claims is the first fully plant-based "bacon cheeseburger" in foodservice. The sandwich debuted at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
The PB Triple Play includes three plant-based alternatives – the Sweet Earth Awesome Burger, Sweet Earth Bac’n, and Sweet Earth Cheeze. The sandwich contained 27g of protein in all.
The foundation is the Awesome Burger, developed by the Sweet Earth culinary team with Nestlé R&D support, using yellow pea protein and non-GMO ingredients.
Sweet Earth Bac’n combines plant-based protein with signature smoky flavors and a special blend of plant-based oils that deliver the crispy and juicy texture you expect from traditional pork bacon.
Sweet Earth’s new American-style Cheeze slices are made with a proprietary blend of plant-based fibers to deliver an authentically stretchy and melty texture and mouthwatering taste.
The fake trio was available in the Amherst campus dining halls, take-away, online delivery and on its food truck, with the special to become a permanent menu item this fall. The University of Massachusetts Dining Program is the largest collegiate dining program in America, according to Nestle.
