Canadian plant-based food manufacturer Modern Meat has completed the acquisition of vegan snack brands from JDW Distributors in a $450,000 deal.
According to the deal announced last month, Modern Meat now owns trademarks and distribution rights to the Snacks from the Sun and Sunsations brands.
It will also continue to work with JDW and its team to support future manufacturing, as well as research and developments.
Modern Meat CEO Tara Haddad said: “We are pleased to be closing the acquisition of JDW Distributors LLC and onboarding their amazing brands and staff.
“With our new foothold in the US market, our company will swiftly begin our growth in the US. We are extremely excited about the upcoming growth soon to come from our company. These are soon to be very exciting times.”
This acquisition is expected to expand Modern Meat’s presence in the US market and introduce a strong sales and distribution network.
For more than a decade, JDW is engaged in the sales of gourmet foods under Sun and Sunsations brands in the US and Canadian markets.
Under its Sun brand, JDW offers popped potato crisps and sunflower chips, which are claimed to be vegan and free of gluten, cholesterol and saturated fat.
The chips are currently available in more than 5,000 stores across the US and Canada.
On the other hand, the company offers fruity vegan candies under the Sunsations brand.
Available in six flavours, the candies are said to be kosher and free from gluten, fat and peanuts.
Sunsations are available at more than 2,500 stores across the US and Canada.
Additionally, Sunsations offers private label products, which are sold across North America.
Last month, Modern Meat signed a distribution agreement with Grey Jay Sales and Distribution to bolster its presence in the ontario market.
