Food ingredients distributor Azelis has opened its new extraction and distillation plant to produce smoke flavours.
Located in an industrial area close to Copenhagen, the 6,500m² facility will be engaged in the production of highly concentrated smoke flavours, which can be used by producers in a wide range of food applications and enable them to reduce the addition of salt in the final recipe.
The company stated that the smoke flavourings are used by the flavour and food blender industry for a large range of flavours and spice blends.
The facility features Azelis’ extraction technology and includes distillation columns, a laboratory, and storage, blending and office facilities.
Smoke flavours produced by the plant will be sold under Azelis’ Scansmoke brand.
Azelis claimed that its smoke facility is one of the few units in the world producing highly concentrated flavours.
The facility also includes a lab area, which will be used for quality control of batch samples.
Azelis Nordic managing director Gert Schnoor said: “Azelis was one of the pioneers in Scandinavia to manufacture and introduce Scansmoke flavourings to the marketplace.
“We are now very proud to open our new smoke facility wher we will serve our customers in the best way possible while offering a safe, efficient, and pleasant place to work for our experienced team.
“Our facility is well-equipped to accommodate regular customer visits and audits on customer request. The new facility is also aligned with Azelis’ group-wide sustainability commitments as it offers a waste handling system and the possibility to segregate waste streams.”
In March 2019, Azelis strengthened its presence in Canada through the acquisition of Chemroy, a distributor of speciality chemicals and food ingredients.
