Lactalis Ingredients has expanded its Pronativ Native Whey protein range with new micellar casein.
Pronativ Native Micellar Casein has been developed to meet the needs of consumers who want to proactively take care of their health.
Expected to double by 2050, the ageing population is driving the demand for functional food and beverages, the company noted.
The company said that its Pronativ Native Micellar Casein contains 87% protein and is suitable for protein-enrichment of food and beverage products.
Lactalis also claims that its new product features low viscosity, low spores, a neutral taste and heat stable. It is also a good source of micellar calcium.
Lactalis said: “This native protein meets the needs of consumers looking to support their active lifestyle, as well as provide nutritional solutions for healthy ageing and medical applications.
“Pronativ Native Micellar Casein is a minimally processed protein. It is extracted directly from milk using gentle processing with no added ingredients or chemicals.
“This non-denaturing process allows us to obtain a native protein, very close to the conformation of the protein present in the milk.”
The company said that the ageing population is seeking functional food and drinks, and its Pronativ Native Micellar Casein is suitable to meet the needs of the nutrition industry.
In July 2019, Lactalis completed the acquisition of Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy, the US yoghurt business of German dairy firm Ehrmann.
Founded in 2009, Ehrmann Commonwealth Dairy operates two manufacturing facilities, which employ 250 people in Brattleboro, Vermont; and Casa Grande, Arizona.
