The implementation of the EcoStruxure Resource Advisor technology will help the operations team to manage energy and sustainability initiatives across the $90m food manufacturing facility in Bahrain.
The biscuit manufacturing plant was opened by Mondelēz in April 2018.
This factory also serves as a hub for exporting its products to Africa, the Levant and the Gulf regions.
Mondelez Bahrain Biscuits plant director Omar Nassef said: “We are proud to be collaborating with Schneider Electric Gulf for the implementation of the EcoStruxure Resource Advisor platform at our state-of-the-art facility, as our aim is to ensure that this factory remains an example in the area of sustainability.
“This platform will help us simplify data analysis and reporting, allowing us the opportunity to learn how we can make this factory greener and more efficient through reducing the use of electricity, water and natural gas.
“Furthermore, we’ll be able to compare ourselves against other Mondelez factories globally and bring their experiences as we look to manufacture as sustainably as possible in the Middle East.”
The platform is based on an open, interoperable software architecture, which is designed to capture and analyse a factory’s operations data to provide a real-time usage of energy and water across the facility to the management team.
The data will enable the Mondelēz Bahrain Biscuits facility’s management team to compare its sustainability targets and benchmark against other Mondelez factories.
It will also help the team to identify how the factory can be made more energy and water-efficient.
The implementation of Cloud-based technology is said to be in line with the company’s commitment.
Mondelez Bahrain Biscuits has been focusing on integrating sustainable practices in its business operations and promote sustainability.
In 2020, Mondelez Bahrain Biscuits registered significant sustainable improvements as against 2018.
The company is claimed to have achieved a 65% carbon emission reduction across its manufacturing operations, a 72% reduction in water usage, and a 70% reduction in total wastage.
