The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for approximately 211,406lb of raw ground turkey products, produced by Plainville Brands, as the products may have caused Salmonella Hadar illness.
The products were manufactured by the company between 18 and 29 December 2020.
Products for which health alert has been issued include 1lb packages of Nature’s Promise Free from 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey, 1lb packages of Wegman 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey, 3lb packages of Wegman 94% LEAN | 6% FAT Ground Turkey, and 1lb packages of Plainville Farms Ground White Turkey 93% | 7%.
Bearing an establishment number EST. P-244 inside the USDA mark of inspection, the products were distributed to retail locations across the US.
The FSIS noted that it is working with its health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), public health and regulatory officials, to investigate the multistate outbreak of 28 Salmonella Hadar cases in 12 states.
It has not issued a recall because it is believed that the products are no longer available for consumers to purchase.
However, the FSIS is concerned that some products may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers and has urged customers who have purchased these products to not consume them.
It has advised the retail locations, which may receive returned products from consumers, to destroy these items immediately.
In October 2020, FSIS issued a public health alert about the consumption of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry bowl products from Taylor Farms.
The regulator warned of contamination involving extraneous material, specifically glass.
FSIS noted that Dallas-based Taylor Farms produced the RTE meat and poultry bowl goods on 5-6 October.
