This spring a new entrant is coming to the protein bar space. Called Sound Bites by Sound Nutrition, these bars are unique for the way in which they are shaped. Using high-frequency, low-amplitude ultrasonics or sound waves, Sound Bites are formed without using binders, fillers or heat.

According to the company, this technique not only improves the nutritional profile of the ingredients used, but it preserves a “rich, buttery mouthfeel.” These bars come in four flavors: Vanilla Lime, Mocha, and Chocolate Raspberry and Coconut Surprise. All bars come with two bite-sized pieces in each 30g package. These individual portions are packed into boxes of 12 that retail for $72.

According to a press release the company, this method of creating protein bars preserves the nutritional integrity of the ingredients, which include whole egg crystals to increase the protein content of the bars and cocoa butter and MCT oil to improve the texture and mouthfeel of each bite. However, due to the sound wave manufacturing technique, the texture of each of the bars has varying levels of moisture, density and chewiness.

Each bar only contains 1 gram of sugar but is sweetened with allulose, an alternative sweetener that has a lesser impact on blood glucose and insulin as compared to refined sugar.

Thanks to its novel manufacturing technology the company says that its bars provide a balanced ratio of nutritional ingredients that both satisfies hunger between meals and creates a feel-good, post-consumption experience around consumers’ physical and mental wellness. The bars accomplish this though providing consumers satiation without feeling overly full or lethargic, a “clean burn” that comes from the use of natural ingredients and sustained physical energy.

The protein bar market is expected to reach $7 billion by 2027 according to Fortune Business Insights, but although the market is large, it is also a crowded one. As such, thanks to its innovative processing method, Sound Bites has a chance to stand out from the crowd.
