Angel Yeast has detailed its plan to make “more concrete moves” to drive sustainable development, following Earth Day 2022. Among them, the global yeast and yeast extract manufacturer cites its role in helping propel the global transition to alternative clean energy sources, such as ethanol fuel.
"We stick to a green business mode and always make environmental issues a top priority,” remarks Minghua Xiao, General Manager of Angel Yeast.
“As we are celebrating Earth Day, we pledge to make our investment with more substantial projects and plans to help drive a prosperous and sustainable future.”
In 2021, Angel Yeast invested CNY 513 million (US$78.1 million) for the cause of environmental protection. In its next steps, it aims to raise efforts to reach sustainability goals with a focus on technology innovation, emissions reduction, and clean energy.
As a key player in the food industry, Angel Yeast also contributes to the production of ethanol fuel production for green energy.Technology innovation
Last year, Angel Yeast channeled CNY 475 million (US$72.4 million) into the R&D of sustainable systems technology.
The company has also set up “intelligent and green” factories for yeast production, wher all the production lines are automated, in order to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
Notably, the company’s core product yeast is a key ingredient in industrial ethanol production, which has positioned it as a major technology provider of ethanol fuel production.
Furthermore, to reduce coal-burning in boilers, Angel Yeast recycles methane from wastewater. The total amount of methane recycled last year reached 16.89 million cubic meters.
In 2021, Angel Yeast completed 28 technological transformation projects to reduce emissions, cutting a total of 19,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The company also uses yeast fermentation broth to produce organic fertilizer, driving sustainable development in agriculture.
Acquisitions and certifications
Among other latest developments, Angel Yeast was named a “Green Factory” by China’s Industry and Information Technology Ministry for its solar energy use and circular advancements.
The company also improved its position in North America with non-GMO certification for its 22 yeast products. Last September, Angel Yeast optimized its manufacturing capacity with the acquisition of Shandong Bio Sunkeen’s yeast-related assets for RMB100 million (US$15.4 million).
