US distributor of food and fine ingredients, Batory Foods has acquired Sweetener Solutions, a specialist in custom sweetener formulation, precision blending and specialty portion packaging. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
The acquisition is a good fit for Batory Foods, a national distributor of natural, alternative sweeteners and sweetener blends, including its recently launched Batory Sweet Essentials.

This demand for nutritious food with no sugar is driving sugar reduction market growth, according to Batory Foods. Strategies in this context vary and include complete sugar removal, blending of sugar with sweeteners and advances in sugar science.

Sweetener Solutions has followed the “sweeteners replacement trend” since its inception 20 years ago and specializes in custom formulation, blending and pre-blending of sweeteners and complementary dry ingredients for the beverage, dairy and bakery categories.
The company uses the AccuBlend proprietary process to formulate and blend its sweeteners. In addition, it specializes in the conversion of key ingredients from wet to dry and provides a variety of portion-controlled packaging options to suit customers’ requirements.
“This acquisition will allow us to leverage Batory’s vast network of longtime customers and business relationships to accelerate growth and advance our position in the marketplace while continuing in our shared mission to deliver the highest quality ingredients and service to our customers,” says Mike Lasky, CEO, Sweetener Solutions.

The acquisition will allow Batory Foods to broaden its ingredient offerings and align with key consumer trends in sugar reduction and replacement. With Sweetener Solutions’ proprietary, high-intensity sweetener blends, the company will access a broader range of sweetener options.
In addition, Batory Foods plans to expand on Sweetener Solutions’ proprietary VeriSource service, which verifies that ingredients are accurate concerning quality and concentration to meet the regulatory requirements for specific products.
Another benefit of the acquisition is that Batory Foods will have access to Savannah port, Georgia; one of the largest ports in the US, a significant advantage for supply chain efficiency.
In other developments, Ingredion signed a new strategic distribution agreement with Batory Foods. The arrangement consolidates Ingredion’s distributor reach in the West and Central Midwest of the US to help F&B manufacturers get the ingredients they need to produce and bring their products to market. Batory Foods will become Ingredion’s authorized licensed distributor of Systems and Ingredient Solutions in these states.
