Hinojosa Packaging Group has launched its paper-based and recyclable primary packaging line Foodservice, designed for hot and cold beverages and 4th and 5th range prepared foods. Hinojosa says it is strengthening its commitment to reducing single-use plastics by entering into the foodservice sector, one of the industries with the highest demand for more environmentally sustainable materials.
Fourth and 5th range products include all fresh fruit and vegetables that are “barely treated” to guarantee safety, hygiene and quality through good practices.
Plastic contamination has become one of today’s principal environmental problems, asserts Hinojosa. According to Plastics Europe, more than 368 million metric tons of plastic are produced annually for the packaging industry.
In this context, Hinojosa Packaging Group has launched the Foodservice line at an industrial level, a pioneering primary packaging range for prepared F&B that is 100% recyclable and also environmentally neutral at the end of its life cycle.
Paper-based packs for food service
Alongside other products by the group, such as Halopack and 360GP, Hinojosa aims to help companies promote environmentally sustainable consumption patterns in the food industry and facilitate the strategic integration of sustainability as leverage toward greater competitiveness.
The use of plastics to package prepared foods increased by more than 33% in 2021, making foodservice one of the sectors with the highest demand for plastic for packaging.
For this reason, the company recently opened its first plant dedicated to manufacturing paper-based primary packaging for the foodservice sector, producing and distributing prepared or ready-to-process F&B to food industries, vending, supermarkets and hotels, restaurants and catering.
Three product categories
The company’s new line of products offers various solutions in which printing techniques suitable for contact with food are used. The main distinguishing feature of this packaging is that it is made from pieces of 100% recyclable paper and is certified compostable.
The new models are classified into three categories: Beverage, dairy and food containers. The first is designed for hot and cold beverages, the second, designed for dairy products, such as yogurts and ice cream, and the third is designed for 4th and 5th-range prepared foods, making them suitable for delivery services for restaurants and quick-service chains.
Hinojosa says it is one of the leading companies in designing and manufacturing sustainable packaging solutions.
Packaging innovation
Due to “innovation, customer orientation and the pursuit of excellence,” the group says it has seen continuous growth, experiencing a boost in recent years with its commitment to internationalization. Currently, Hinojosa has 2,500 employees and 19 production plants across Spain, Portugal and France, combining the strength of a global group with a local presence.
Last year, Hinojosa became the first in the packaging industry to get Aenor accreditation. The distinction was said to honor the company’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The company told PackagingInsights that “in order to achieve this certification, Hinojosa analyzed from the supply base and inbound logistics, throughout production, distribution, use and end-of-life of the products, to determine the SDGs that impact each stage of its value chain.”
