PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — J&J Snack Foods Corp. has acquired Hill & Valley Inc., a Rock Island, Ill.-based premium bakery with annual sales of more than $45 million. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Hill & Valley was founded in 1987 as Rock Island Baking Co. and later renamed Nancy’s Pies in honor of George Coin’s (the company founder) wife, Nancy. In 2006, Mr. and Mrs. Coin sold the business, and Hill & Valley was formed. Today, the company makes a variety of pre-baked cakes, cookies, pies, muffins and other desserts for retail in-store bakeries. The company, which is one of the top producers of sugar-free and no-sugar-added pre-baked in-store bakery products, also is part of several strategic private labeling partnerships with retailers nationwide.
The acquisition rounds out J&Js in-store bakery offerings.
“We are excited to add Hill & Valley to our team,” said Jerry Law, senior vice-president of J&J Snack Foods. “This acquisition rounds out our in-store bakery offerings by expanding our capabilities and customer base, and provides us a newly constructed facility that has ample capacity for growth and a nimble production process.”
Doug Davidson, president of Hill & Valley, added, “We at Hill & Valley are very excited to become part of the J&J family. J&J brings substantial resources to Hill & Valley on all levels that will continue to make us a valued added supplier to our customers and a company that brings solutions to the table.”
