The mural symbolizes founder “Mama” Ayesha welcoming the presidents to the city

Mama Ayesha, a popular restaurant in Washington, D.C., is best known for its presidential mural featuring founder “Mama” Ayesha Abraham with former United States leaders.

The restaurant has announced that although President-elect Donald Trump will take office in a matter of weeks, he will not be added to the mural because of financial restrictions.

“While there remains room for two additional presidents to be added, we currently do not have the budget for this addition,” Amir Abu-El-Hawa, whose family now owns the restaurant, wrote to Washingtonian.

“President-elect Trump has yet to take office and will occupy the [Oval Office] for the next four years,” he said. “When the funds are available and the budget allows for it Mr. Trump will join the rest of the presidents on our wall.”

The mural is more than just an image of Abraham and the presidents but a depiction of the “American Dream.” Abraham was a Muslim, Arab, and female immigrant; she started her own business in the U.S. and the restaurant remains as her legacy.

Karla “Karlisima” Rodas is the artist behind the mural, which took two years to produce.
