Canada revises levels of sulfentrazone in imported vegetables

On March 3rd of 2017, the food inspection agency of the Canadian Ministry of Health, released a public statement that summed up the new applications of the weed killer Authority 480 for an array of different goods. It also stated that one of the components of this weed killer, sulfentrazone, exceeded the allowed amount in a selection of products. The deadline for discussion is 75 days after the announcement has been made. The specific regulations are: the tolerated amount for vegetables of the brassica genus with green leafs is 0.4 ppm; for vegetables of the brassica genus with a stalk-shape it is 0,2 ppm: for fruitlike vegetables, berries, and nuts it is 0.15 ppm.

An expert in exporting vetegetables at the inspection and quarantine office in Jiangsu explains that, within the region, the cities of Changshu, Nantong, Lianyungang, Suzhou, Xuzhou, Yancheng and Taizhou all have a business in exporting vegetables to Canada. They rely mainly on the deep-freezing and dehydration of vegetables and cover a large variety of vegetables.
