Global snack food maker Mondelez International has introduced four new production lines at its Bournville site in Birmingham, UK.

The company is reported to have invested nearly £75m for the installation of these new production lines.

It will be dedicating two lines for producing Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel, Cadbury Dairy Milk Fruit and Nut, Cadbury Dairy Milk Whole Nut and plain Cadbury Dairy Milk products, while the other two lines will be used for manufacturing assortments such as Cadbury Roses and Heroes.

For the first time in three decades, the company is reported to have made a major investment in its Cadbury’s assortments segment.

"We have invested £200m in our manufacturing operations and R&D facilities across Britain to ensure we continue to make the nation’s favourite treats in the UK for years to come.”

The company started the new line installation works in 2014, and the Cadbury Dairy Milk lines currently have the potential to produce 900,000 200g bars each day, and the Cadbury Roses and Heroes lines have the capacity to produce nearly 13 million sweets every day.

Mondelez International Northern Europe president Glenn Caton said: “This £75m investment we’ve made means our Bournville factory can now favourably compete against manufacturing facilities in other European markets and retain the majority of Cadbury Dairy Milk and Cadbury chocolate production right here in the UK.

“Previously, it cost three times more for us to make a chocolate bar here in Bournville than it did in Germany. That wasn’t sustainable. Thats why our investment in these world-class production lines is so vital.

“In total, we have invested £200m in our manufacturing operations and R&D facilities across Britain to ensure we continue to make the nation’s favourite treats in the UK for years to come.”

The company further added that the investment has allowed them to add modern manufacturing abilities in the UK for the future generations.
