Biologists of the Central Siberian Botanical Garden have proposed the cultivation of exotic fruits and vegetables from Africa, Asia and South America in Russia. Some of the crops suggested are Vigna, Momordica, Benincasa (also known as Winter melon) or Kiwano.

Scientists have noted that the amount of nutrients in fruits and vegetables has not been high enough recently.

"Plants absorb and accumulate various macro and microelements in their leaves and fruits, depending on the species preferences and the soils content." Over time, the soil is impoverished," explained Yuri Fotev, a researcher at the Central Siberian Botanical Garden, who explained the reason for the reduction in the amount of nutrients in vegetables and fruits.

He noted that cultivating some exotic crops would help in coping with this problem.
