US-based organic product supplier KeHE Distributors (KeHE) has opened a new distribution centre in Douglasville in Atlanta, Georgia.
The new 450,000ft² facility will be added to the KeHEs existing network of 17 distribution centres, which are engaged in the distribution of natural and organic, speciality and fresh products to natural food stores, grocery stores and other speciality retailers across North America.
The Douglasville site will be a new replacement for KeHEs former facility in Kennesaw, Georgia.
KeHE president and CEO Brandon Barnholt said: "We are honoured to expand our operations in Georgia.
"This new site demonstrates our commitment to serving a geographically diverse customer base and employing innovative practices and sustainability measures to enhance our operations."
The company claimed that its Douglasville distribution centre has obtained LEED certification, as they have incorporated energy-efficient practices, beginning from water heaters and HVAC, to skylights and lighting controls.
"This new site demonstrates our commitment to serving a geographically diverse customer base and employing innovative practices and sustainability measures to enhance our operations."
As part of the energy-efficiency programme, the new facility is equipped with LED lights and decided to use recycled material for packaging their products, as well as installed software that constantly monitors the usage of electricity in the facility.
The company also noted that nearly 100,000ft² of the freezer and cooler space will be occupied by popular fresh products.
