Dutch dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina has started construction on a new distribution centre in Meppel, the Netherlands.
FrieslandCampina’s new distribution centre will be built in the Meppel Noord II industrial zone, covering an area of 31,000m² and offering storage space to accommodate 45,000 pallets.
It will be used to store and transfer dairy products coming from FrieslandCampinas production locations in Beilen and Meppel.
"Upon completion, the new facility is expected to create nearly 35 new regional jobs."
The company currently carries out storage distribution activities from four warehouses in Hoogeveen, Heerenveen, Meppel and Veendam.
Upon completion, the new facility is expected to create nearly 35 new regional jobs.
FrieslandCampina’s new Meppel distribution facility is expected to result in a reduction of 1.5 million transport kilometres, which decreases CO2 emissions by 648,000kg per annum.
The company claimed that its facility is in accordance with the most recent requirements in the areas of food and fire safety regulations.
The new building will be certified by BREEAM as ‘very good’, which indicates that the construction works are performed using sustainable materials.
BREEAM certification is a globally recognised and one of the most important and commonly used sustainability certification for buildings.
