Sustainability goals 2025: AB InBev commits to smart agriculture and circular packaging

Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) is committing to 2025 Sustainability Goals in smart agriculture, water stewardship, circular packaging, and climate action. The delivery of the goals will have the wide-reaching impact that includes connecting thousands of farmers to technologies and skills, ensuring water access and quality in high-stress communities, partnering with suppliers to increase recycling content, and adding renewable electricity capacity to regional grids.

 

 

Having achieved all previous sustainability goals over the past decade, AB InBev will continue to advance environmental and social commitments while introducing new programs that have a positive impact on the communities wher they operate. 

 
As a global brewer, AB InBev is positioned to identify the local solutions needed to solve environmental and social challenges. This will come to life through the companys newly created 100+ Sustainability Accelerator, enabling us to enlist scientists, technologists, and budding entrepreneurs around the world to help build and scale solutions. 


“As the leading brewer operating in countries around the world, AB InBev is positioned to address global issues by working within the communities in which they operate, delivering the programs and resources that have a meaningful impact in a local context. AB InBev is very focused on the fact that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution,” an AB InBev spokesperson told FoodIngredientsFirst.

 
AB InBev’s approach to sustainability is four-fold:
Global/Local: While the problems AB InBev face are global, they know there is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution.  They will achieve their goals through solutions that account for regional and local diversity, positively adding to the communities wher they live and work.
Partnerships: The challenges AB InBev face are too big to solve alone; they will continue to build meaningful partnerships with state and local governments, civil society, research institutions, NGOs and other businesses. 
Culture: AB InBev foster exceptional talent, uniting 200,000 people across their companies. Their ownership culture means they take results personally, with 100 percent focus on sustainable growth for both their businesses and communities.
Power of brands: As a global brewer with more than 500 iconic brands, AB InBev continues to leverage the reach their brands to drive positive change.


The 100+ Sustainability Accelerator will aim to solve 100+ challenges by 2025. The accelerator will support promising ideas and high potential technologies, reflecting our vision of building a company to last for the next 100 years and beyond. Powered by ZX Ventures, the 100+ Sustainability Accelerator will run annual boot camps in 9 markets followed by a 10-week program for selec entrepreneurs to test and scale solutions.


“The 100+ Accelerator which will be announced in June is integral to helping AB InBev reach its goals,” says the company spokesperson.

AB InBev’s Chief Sustainability & Procurement Officer, Tony Milikin, also commented: “We know we cannot accomplish our comprehensive sustainability goals alone. As a global brewer operating in more than 50 countries, we are excited to draw on our entrepreneurial spirit and to collaborate with governments, NGO partners, universities and innovators to tackle some of the world’s most important challenges.”
 
2025 Sustainability Goals:
• Smart Agriculture: 100 percent of direct farmers will be skilled, connected and financially-empowered.
• Water Stewardship:  100 percent of communities in high-stress areas will have measurably improved water availability and quality.

• Circular Packaging: 100 percent of products will be in packaging that is returnable or made from majority recycled content.
• Climate Action:
      100 percent of purchased electricity will be from renewable sources; and a
      25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions across the value chain (science-based).


AB InBev recently announced its 100 percent renewable electricity label on Bud bottles during Davos, as part of AB InBev’s global commitment to source all purchased electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
