After 15 days, the teams of Punjab Mandi Board sprang into action again, inspecting 68 fruit and vegetable markets in the state early Tuesday morning.
Any overripe fruits and vegetables were destroyed on the spot and the traders responsible were fined from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 (€12.30-123.00) depending upon the gravity of the situation.
Tandarust Punjab Mission Director K S Pannu said that various teams of officers - including a team headed by the Punjab Mandi Board General Manager - inspected fruit and vegetable markets state-wide. Uniindia.com reported that to their utter surprise they did not find any unethically ripened fruit; instead only overripe and mouldy fruit was found.
