HM.CLAUSE Celebrates 10th Anniversary of subsidiary

HM.CLAUSE celebrated the 10th anniversary of its CLAUSE Maghreb subsidiary in Khraicia near Algiers. This event took place in the subsidiary’s new offices and was attended by local political representatives, several key players in the sector and North African customers and distributors.

Though CLAUSE varieties have been present on the North African market for a long time, the creation of CLAUSE Maghreb in 2008 allowed HM.CLAUSE to increase its investment in the region, in particular in Algeria.

Algeria has unique agricultural potential, with countless resources, rich soil, water and enterprising farmers. Vegetable production will continue to grow strongly in the future, both for the domestic and export markets thanks to new opportunities. This is why, in the last ten years, HM.CLAUSE has invested in setting up a test and research station at Ahmer el Aïn near Tipaza, a large number of tests on farms and new premises in Khraicia.

For Jean-François Mercier, Clause Maghreb’s Managing Director, “Algerian markets have very specific characteristics. We could cite the El Oued area wher the introduction of Aya and then Salimah tomatoes led to success, or even the development of the Kartier tomato and Organza and Kangoo cauliflowers in the coastal region. But we are also looking to the future with the soon-to-be opened trial station at Biskra wher we can adapt our experiment and research programmes to the North Africa region’s many needs.”

“At HM.CLAUSE, customer satisfaction is at the heart of our concerns and we continue to do everything possible to support North African farmers and develop our trusted partnership. We are investing in Algeria to bring even more innovation, with new varieties offering higher yields, greater resistance to disease and better conservation times,” Paul Devisme, HM.CLAUSE EMEA Sales Director, specifies.

This event was followed the very next day by the second North Africa Open Day at Ahmer el Aïn. More than 120 customers and distributors were able to see the many new varieties on offer this year. These include Jollanar and Angora tomatoes that are TYLCV-resistant, the Walid cucumber for early greenhouse crops, the Lukka cauliflower for autumn and winter crops and Generator maze with high potential yields.
