A recent period without heavy rainfall in Pune has increased the supply of vegetables from the surrounding districts. However, the prices of cauliflower and green chillies still went up by 10 per cent. The prices of tomatoes, cucumber and cabbage went down by 15 percent.

“Relief from heavy rainfall gave time for farmers to harvest the crops and hence the supply of vegetables to the market yard has increased a bit,” said Vilas Bhujbal, president of Chhatrapati Shivaji market yard traders and agents association, Pune.

On Sunday, the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) received 160 trucks of vegetables. The prices of cauliflower increased from ₹60 to 100 for 10 kg (€0.72-.21) to ₹140 - 180 per 10 kg (€1.70-2.18), in a week. At the same time, green chillies were sold at ₹ 250 to 300 per 10 kg against ₹150 to 200 per 10 kg last week.

In some good news for residents, prices of tomatoes continued to come down and was being sold at ₹40 to 80 per 10 kg against last week’s prices of ₹60 to 100 per 10 kg.

For cucumber, the Hindustan Times reported that 10 kg went for an average of ₹100 and the same amount of cabbage sold at ₹55.The prices of potatoes settled at ₹80 to 120.
