Peruvian mango exports between January and July 2018 amounted to US $284 million (+35.5%), a historic record when compared to the values achieved in previous years, stated Rogers Valencia, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).
"The last export record achieved was US $277 million in 2016. And now, by July 2018, the country has already surpassed this figure by far. This shows that there is a high demand for our product in the world, mainly from the Netherlands (+53%), the United States (+22%) and Spain (+87%)," said Valencia.
He also said that these markets accounted for more than 70% of the increase of the well-known Peruvian superfood.
Other fruits that registered an important development in the aforementioned period were grapes (+34%), blueberries (+231%), avocados (+7%), chestnuts (+64%), and bananas (+15%).
These values explain the growth of the fruit sector, which grew by 23.4% (US $ 1.586 billion), supported by the increased demand from the Netherlands (+34%) and the United States (+29%).
Exports of fresh vegetables also increased by July (+8.3%), thanks to higher shipments of onions (+61%), beans (+71%), and peas (+49%).
