"Many kiwi fruit production areas in China have suffered from extreme weather conditions, in particular the springtime cold spell in April, which decreased the production volume. The product quality also suffered, which further decreased the overall supply volume as not all kiwi fruit met with commercial standards. Our estimate is that the retail price of good-quality kiwi fruit increased by 35%." This is according to Liu Min of Sichuan Kangyuan Agricultural Produce Co., Ltd.
"Our company owns plantations in Lushan County, Yaan City, Sichuan, with an annual supply volume of 2 thousand tons. We grow a wide variety of kiwi fruit including red heart, yellow heart, and green heart kiwi fruit. Lushan County has a subtropical monsoon climate. The winter is not severe and the summer is not intense. The weather is mild and there is abundant rainfall throughout the year. In other words, the weather conditions are excellent for kiwi fruit production. Our kiwi fruit has received increasingly positive feedback from domestic and foreign markets in recent years."
"We sell our kiwi fruit in wholesale markets and supermarkets in first and second tier cities in China under our own brand Hao sheng he [well grown crops]. We also sell our kiwi fruit in overseas markets. Last year, we transported our kiwi fruit via the China-Europe Rongou Express Railway. Export from Sichuan to the Netherlands only took around 18 days. It is our understanding that Dutch consumer gave positive feedback on our kiwi fruit when it appeared in supermarkets in the Netherlands."
"Our current kiwi fruit production season lasts until around February. In the remaining four months of this production season we hope to increase the volume of our kiwi fruit export to the European market. We hope to give even more European consumers the opportunity to taste the excellent flavor of Lushan County kiwi fruit."
