Majestic Meat Co. of Salt Lake City is recalling 532 pounds of ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The bulk ground beef, ground beef patties, and meatballs were produced Nov. 8 and shipped to restaurants in Utah. All of the Majestic products subject to this recall have the establishment number “EST. 19915” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection on their labels. Labels from the recalled beef can be viewed by clicking here.
Staff with the FSIS discovered the problem Nov. 15 when they found that product associated with a sample that confirmed positive for E. coli O157:H7 had been shipped. The establishment held two of the three boxes of source material associated with the sampled product, however, the third box of source material was further processed and shipped.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, according to the recall notice.
FSIS advises all consumers to safely prepare their raw meat products, including fresh and frozen, and only consume ground that has been cooked to a temperature of 165°F. The only way to confirm that ground beef is cooked to a temperature high enough to kill harmful bacteria is to use a food thermometer that measures internal temperature, http://1.usa.gov/1cDxcDQ.
