After Brazil closed its borders to the fruit from the Valley, the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Fruit Growers (CAFI) urgently requested that President Mauricio Macri act to reverse the measure, as it will have very serious effects on the Valleys fruit sector.

The sector stated that they had sent a letter to the Executive detailing how "Argentinas apple and pear exports do not represent a risk for Brazils production because of the Risk Mitigation System that has been in place for more than 15 years, which has allowed detecting any batch that could have carpocapsa so that it isnt exported."

In addition, they warned that "there will be an important loss of fruit due to the collapse of the logistics system, especially packaging and conservation; as more than 18 million dollars wont enter the financial circuit. The fruit that is not exported at this time can hardly be exported later; and there will be a dro in labor due to an eventual suspension of the harvest and shifts in the packaging sector."

Finally, they stated that every day that passes, the impact was irreversible, so it is necessary to intervene immediately and work with other agencies, as they have been doing with Senasa.

With the closure of the Brazilian border many companies are looking to redirect their exportable offer to the port of St. Petersburg. The advances of the Eurasian importers are key to be able to finance the up coming campaign.
