Mango lovers in Aam will have to dig deeper into their pockets this season, as limited supply has pushed prices higher. Mango prices this season are about 10 to 15% higher than a year ago on restricted supplies after extended winters and adverse weather conditions hit output in leading growing states.

Fresh supply of mangoes have started arriving from Southern India and Maharashtra to Indore, but daily arrivals are about 15% short than a year ago during the same time period, according to dealers. "Supply has started in Indore from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra but its limited owing to which prices are high," said Manohar Dhawan, fruit dealer at Choithram market.

about 4 to 5 trucks (carrying 7 to 8 tons each) of premium quality mangoes from Andhra Pradesh and most popular variety from Maharashtra Alphonso have started arriving in the market on a daily basis. In the peak season, daily demand in Indore city rises to around 30 truckloads, marketers said.

"Production of mango is less this season due to which prices are very high. All the varieties are trading high and prices are unlikely to dro unless supply of lose mangoes starts," said Shyam Chouhan, another fruit dealer.

It is reported that the Alphonso variety from Maharashtra is offered at Rs 1,700 - 2.000 per 12 kg (€22 - 25.7) while mango from Southern India is quoted at Rs 400 (€5.16) for 5 kg and Badam is sold at Rs 70 (€0.90) per kg.
