US-based J&J Snack Foods Handhelds is recalling nearly 56,578lb of stuffed sandwich products over possible foreign matter contamination.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) said that the recalled products may be contaminated with extraneous materials, particularly semi-transparent plastic.
Products that are subject to the recall include 9oz carton packages containing two ‘Bremer Classic Pepperoni Pizza Hot Stuffed Sandwiches’ and 9oz carton packages featuring two ‘Bremer Classic Ham & Cheese Hot Stuffed Sandwiches’.
The problem was identified after the company received consumer complaints and notified the FSIS on 3 April 2019.
The USDA FSIS noted that the stuffed sandwiches were produced on 19 and 20 February 2019, and were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The recalled stuffed sandwich products bear an establishment number EST 27231 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
According to the US agency, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products. Concerned consumers have been urged to contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers have been encouraged not to consume the products and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
The recall has been categorised as Class I, which indicates that use of the product could cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Last month, US-based meat producer Tyson Foods recalled 69,093lb of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken strip products over possible contamination with extraneous materials, including pieces of metal.
