US-based fresh fruits and vegetable company Charlie’s Produce has acquired Los Angeles-based organic produce and food products distributor Better Life Organics (BLO).
Financial details of the deal have not been divulged.
The acquisition of BLO is expected to enhance Charlie’s Produce’s services and product offerings, including organic fruits and vegetables from local growers and international market leaders.
Charlie’s Produce Los Angeles general manager Jim McDonald said: “BLO has an excellent reputation in the Los Angeles market for providing high-quality products and service to customers.
“As a business focused on building fruitful and enduring relationships, we are pleased to have BLO’s talented team and loyal customers join Charlie’s Produce family.”
Charlie’s Produce will consolidate operations at its facility located in Irwindale, California. It also welcomes executives BLO founder and head Bill McCoy, as well as the founder and president German Ruiz to the team.
McCoy will join the Charlie’s Produce sales development team, while Ruiz will join Charlie’s Produce in the Irwindale distribution facility and focus on expanding partnerships within the organic grower community.
McCoy said: “We are happy to be combining with a respected and innovative company that aligns with our values and standards when it comes to fresh food distribution.
“We look forward to continuing to serve the LA market and providing our customers with strengthened service and product offerings that help their businesses continue to thrive.”
Charlie’s Produce is an employee-owned independent production company, which has been serving the west coast since 1978.
Over the past five years, Charlie’s Produce has expanded rapidly through increased services, produce processing, geographic extension and acquisition.
