Cane sweetener supplier Sucro Sourcing has completed the construction on its granular sugar refinery in Hamilton, Canada.
The refinery claims to offer a new solution for customer challenges. It was constructed with the support of the Port of Hamilton and will begin refining sugar with immediate effect.
Hamilton Port Authority president and CEO Ian Hamilton said: “The Hamilton Port Authority is proud to work with Sucro Sourcing as they grow their business here at the port.
“We provide space for a modern, sustainable industry, supported by first-class multimodal transportation solutions. This sugar refinery is a tremendous addition to the $1 billion-and-growing Hamilton agri-food cluster.”
For its new facility, Sucro Sourcing partnered with mechanical and plant engineering company BMA for industrial-scale sugar production.
Both companies have collaborated to provide the essential design, engineering and installation of Sucro’s Hamilton sugar refinery and its unique processing capability.
Sucro Sourcing founding owner and CEO Jonathan Taylor said: “At Sucro Sourcing, we are focused on creating value for our customers through continuous innovation and unique supply chain solutions.
“Our innovative approach to micro sugar refineries and the proprietary process technology utilised allows Sucro to reduce costs for our customers and conduct business in a way that is more sustainable and aligned with our customers’ needs.”
The company claims that the refining system installed at its facility allows refining sugar in close proximity to its customers, supporting sustainability initiatives and supply chain transparency.
The Hamilton Port Authority handles more than C$3bn ($2.26bn) worth of cargo per year.
