Swiss food and drink company Nestlé has created a new chocolate variant, which has been produced using cocoa beans and pulp as the only ingredients.
The company’s new variant contains 70% dark chocolate and until now has been produced with the addition of refined sugar.
Nestlé Strategic Business Units, Marketing and Sales head Patrice Bula said: “We’re proud to bring chocolate lovers new chocolate made entirely from the cocoa fruit without adding refined sugar.
“This is a real innovation, which uses the natural sweetness of the cocoa pulp to provide a pure, novel chocolate experience.”
Nestlé developed a natural approach that allowed the company to extract pulp and use it in chocolate without compromising taste, texture and quality of the final product.
Coca fruit contains cocoa beans and cocoa pulp, which is soft, sweet and white.
The Swiss firm intends to introduce its first product in Japan this year through its KitKat Chocolatory.
Further products will be introduced next year in other countries under Nestlé’s confectionery brands.
Last January, Nestlé became the first firm to launch a ruby chocolate version of the KitKat brand in Japan, South Korea and online.
