The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture announced in a press release that 2,080 samples of both fruits and vegetables have been analyzed, and a first conclusion is that no Romanian products exceed the maximum permitted limits of pesticide residues. There are, however, some document-related issues.
So far since the beginning of the year, inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture have applied sanctions totaling 118,000 lei (about 24,930 Euro) and issued 110 warnings.
Most of the sanctions are applied to traders failing to present the documents about the traceability of the traded products, who do not name the country of origin on the labels or who dont even have labels for the products on the shelves.
The cited source mentions that 2,080 samples were taken by the phytosanitary inspectors and 2,053 samples have already been analyzed in the authorized and accredited laboratory of the ANF.
Following the laboratory analyzes, the Ministry assures that the maximum permitted limits of pesticide residues have not been reached by any vegetable or fruit product. Romanian vegetables and fruits meet all the quality standards and their consumption doesnt entail any risks for the consumers.
