Impossible Foods has put the brakes on moving into McDonald’s because the company is not sure it could keep up with demand, Reuters reports.
Impossible has its analogue meat patties in fast-food chains including Burger King, Red Robin and White Castle. But producing enough to fill orders has been a chronic problem for the innovative company, and CEO Pat Brown told Reuters that “Having more big customers right now doesn’t do us any good until we scale up production.”
McDonald’s is also reportedly considering Beyond Meat as a source of meat analogue products. It conducted a 12-week test of Beyond Meat patties in some Canadian outlets starting last September.
In other news, Impossible Foods is rolling out a line of pork-analogue products. The faux ground pork and pork sausage are being given away as samples at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020 now being held in Las Vegas.
Later this month, Impossible’s analogue ground pork will debut in a test at 139 Burger King outlets in five markets as a substitute for the pork sausage patty in the Croissan’wich, Burger King’s breakfast sandwich.
