US-based Golden Pearl Trading, operating as Dandy Food Products, has issued a recall of 12,054lb of ready-to-eat (RTE) imported catfish products.
The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said that it has issued the recall as the companies involved failed to present the products for import re-inspection into the US.
FSIS added that Dandy Food imported products imported from Singapore, another reason for the recall. Singapore does not have a license to export ready-to-eat catfish products to the US.
Products that are subject to recall include 113g foil bags containing ‘Sugar Kid Salted Egg Fish Skin’. Dandy Food imported these into the US market between 26 September 2019 and 24 December 2019.
Dandy Food shipped the products to distributors in California, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
FSIS identified the issue during its routine surveillance activity on imported products.
So far, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions as a result of the consumption of these products. FSIS said that anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS has urged consumers not to eat the products. Instead, they should either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. It also has advised restaurants not to serve any of these products that may be stored in their freezers.
It has categorised this recall as class one. This indicates that consumption of the product could cause severe health consequences or death.
In August, Tip Top Poultry recalled 135,810lb of fully cooked chicken products as they may have been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
According to the FSIS, the products subject to the recall include frozen, diced and mechanically separated RTE chicken products.
