The UK Government has unveiled its new obesity strategy to help people shed excess weight and protect themselves against the Covid-19 pandemic.
As part of this initiative, the government has set new guidelines such as banning adverts on television and over the internet that promote food with high in fat, sugar and salt before 9pm.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “Losing weight is hard but with some small changes we can all feel fitter and healthier.
“If we all do our bit, we can reduce our health risks and protect ourselves against coronavirus – as well as taking pressure off the NHS.”
The new measure will also put an end to the deals such as ‘buy one get one free’ on unhealthy food high in salt, sugar and fat.
Under the new measures, such products should not be displayed by the retailers in prominent locations such as at checkouts and entrances, and online.
Additionally, the government has said that the calories must be displayed on menus to help people to make healthier choices when eating out.
