General Mills has made a commitment to doubling its number of Black executives in the wake of the racial unrest that has roiled the nation this summer.
The company has announced that it will also seek to increase minority representation in its professional ranks from 19% to 25%, and will double its spend with minority-owned vendors. However, it gave no timetable for these changes, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
General Mills is headquartered near Minneapolis, wher the killing of George Floyd by police touched off a summer of protests. That gives racial matters a special urgency for the company, says CEO Jeff Harmening.
“I want to voice General Mills’ strong support for the inspiring movement for social and racial justice that was tragically elevated by the horrible killing of George Floyd here in our hometown of Minneapolis,” Harmening told investors earlier this summer.
