Nestlé has acquired Freshly, a service that delivers refrigerated, single-serve heat-and-eat meals to consumers’ homes.
Nestlé announced Oct. 30 that it paid $950 million for Freshly, in which it had acquired a 16% stake in 2017. Freshly currently ships more than a million meals a week to customers in 48 states, with 2020 sales forecast at $430 million.
Freshly ships between four and 12 meals a week to subscribers, at a per-meal cost of $8.49 to $11,49, depending on frequency.
"We are extremely excited to expand our relationship with Nestlé," Freshly CEO Michael Wystrach said in a statement. "With Nestlé, we will have access to resources, research and development, and years of experience that we can tap into to catapult our growth plans and move closer to our goal of being in every household in America."
