Target Corp. has joined the group of food retailers and restaurant chains charging the nation’s largest poultry processors with price-fixing.
In the suit, filed Dec. 4 in federal court in Illinois, Target accuses Tyson Foods, Perdue Farms, Sanderson Farms and others of colluding to fix prices. It is the latest litigant in a group of those companies’ customers that includes Kroger, Walmart, Sysco and, most recently, Chick-Fil-A. These trade customers and more have filed several price-fixing lawsuits against Big Poultry over the last few years.
In addition, a criminal case filed earlier this year resulted in the indictment of the CEO of Pilgrim’s Pride and other current and former poultry company executives on price-fixing charges.
The poultry companies are contesting both the criminal and civil charges.
