Swiss consumer food manufacturer Hero Group has acquired Canadian organic baby food company Baby Gourmet.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, other than the fact that Hero Group selected a majority share in Baby Gourmet.
Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Baby Gourmet was established in 2005 by sisters Jennifer Carlson and Jill Vos. The company offers organic baby meals and snacks.
Baby Gourmet CEO Jennifer Carlson said: “After 15 years of building Canada’s leading organic baby food, Jill and I are thrilled to launch our next phase of growth with Hero.
“With shared values, Hero is the perfect home for Baby Gourmet; a place wher we can continue to develop our beloved, mission-driven brand.”
Carlson and Vos will continue their association with the firm as officers and shareholders.
The acquisition is said to be in line with Hero Group’s strategy to increase category footprint and will reportedly provide a new platform to Hero Group to foray into the Canadian baby food space with an organic product offering.
Hero Group CEO Rob Versloot said: “We are extremely pleased to have positively concluded the acquisition of Baby Gourmet and to have found a strategic partnership model with the founders to continue their entrepreneurial success story.
“The baby food market is our largest category, wher we are keen on further increasing our footprint.”
Versloot called Baby Gourmet a ‘perfect fit for Hero’s ‘goodness of nature’ mission’, adding that it will bolster the group’s position as a provider of healthy choices for babies, toddlers and children.
