US-based meat producer Tyson Foods has opened its new $425m poultry complex in Humboldt, Tennessee.

Located within the Gibson County Industrial Park, the new facility will be engaged in the production of pre-packaged trays of fresh chicken for grocery stores across the US.

Production at the poultry complex is slated to begin later this month.

Tyson Foods president and CEO Dean Banks said: “We’re pleased to add to the growth in Gibson County with the opening of our new 370,000ft² processing facility.

“We appreciate the support of all those who played a role in making this facility possible – the local community, county, state and our Humboldt team members, who safely and responsibly produce high-quality protein daily to help feed our nation and the world.”

Featuring a processing plant, feed mill and hatchery, the investment in the new poultry complex is said to be the company’s biggest in Tennessee and the single largest corporate investment ever in Gibson County.

Tyson Foods said that it has hired several workers so far and are being trained for the start of production later this month.

The new facility is expected to employ more than 1,500 team members by 2023.

The Humboldt feed mill will employ 30 team members and produce 14,000t of finished feed in a week, which will be supplied to approximately 56 local poultry farmers.

On the other hand, the Humboldt hatchery division will be employing 30 team members to supply chicks for local poultry farmers who supply broiler chickens to Tyson.

The new facility is estimated to generate an annual economic benefit of $150m to the state of Tennessee.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said: “With five facilities across Tennessee, Tyson Foods has an enormous impact on our state’s agriculture industry and rural communities.

“Job creation is crucial to our continued economic success, and I thank Tyson for its investment and commitment to Humboldt and West Tennessee.”
